EMF Marathon FAQs
What does EMF’s Marathon Program support?
EMF’s Marathon Program supports life-saving cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Memorial Sloan Kettering, while also providing financial assistance to young adult cancer survivors through EMF’s SAMFund Grant Program.
What do runners receive as part of the program?
Runners receive dedicated fundraising support, opportunities to engage with the EMF community, and the chance to make a meaningful impact while participating in one of the world’s most iconic races.
When do applications open and when are selections made?
Application timelines vary by race. NYC applications typically open in February or March with selections made in April. Boston applications open in late September with selections in October. Philadelphia applications open in April with selections in June.
How does the selection process work?
All applications are reviewed, and teams are selected and notified on a rolling basis within each race’s timeline.
Is race entry guaranteed?
If selected, runners will receive guaranteed race entry.
Will I receive official EMF gear?
Yes, all runners will receive a branded EMF singlet to wear on race day.
Will I have a fundraising page?
Yes, EMF will set up a customizable GivenGain (Boston) or Haku (NYC) fundraising page, making it easy to share your story and collect donations in one place.
Will I receive support with fundraising?
Yes, runners receive access to EMF’s fundraising guide, support with planning fundraising events, and personalized guidance to help maximize their impact.
Does applying guarantee a spot on the team?
No, completing an application does not guarantee a marathon bib. Applicants will be notified of their status in the weeks following their application.
What factors are considered to be selected for a bib?
Team selections are based on a variety of factors, including an individual’s connection to the cause, fundraising goals and experience, proposed fundraising plan, and running experience. EMF looks for dedicated individuals who are committed to making a meaningful impact through their participation.
