Young Professionals Expect Miracles

4th Annual Boston Expect Miracles Kan Jam and Cornhole Classic

Thursday, October 4, 2018
9OFS | 1 Federal St, Boston, MA

On Thursday, October 4, 150 Young Professionals came together on the rooftop of 9OFS for the 4th Annual Expect Miracles Foundation Kan Jam and Cornhole Classic. Nearly 30 teams committed to this year's fundraising goal for cancer research and the Expect Miracles Foundation College Scholarship, awarded annually to a student who has been impacted by cancer. Thanks to the efforts of all our teams, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators, this year’s Kan Jam and Cornhole tournament raised over $30,000 and set a new fundraising record! Special thank you to our Premier Sponsor: Income Research + Management, our Tournament Sponsors: Financial Recovery Technologies, Eaton Vance and Eastern Bank, and T- Shirt Sponsor: Syntagma Group.

Throughout the night, spectators and players alike enjoyed a variety of drinks provided by Blue Point Brewing, Goose Island, and Owl’s Brew. No one went hungry thanks to the delicious food donated by Barlow’s RestaurantBon Me, Florina Pizza in Beacon Hill, and UDG. Guests tried their luck in the chance table to win some great prizes such as a free league at Social Boston Sports, a foursome at Black Rock Country Club, and the grand prize for the night – an amazing stay in Las Vegas thanks to Caesars Entertainment.
During the halftime of the tournaments, Frank Heavey, Executive Director, shared some exciting news with the crowd. Each year, the Young Professionals Expect Miracles groups in Boston and New York compete to win the Kanley Cup. The city that achieves the greatest fundraising amount wins the Kanley Cup. Heavey announced that Boston will repeat at Kanley Cup Champions again in 2018. Amazing effort by both groups, and congrats to Boston!

Next, Maggie Dombroski, Assistant Director, invited Chelsea Gavitt from Income Research + Management to the front to receive two important recognitions. First, Chelsea was acknowledged as the highest fundraiser for personally raising over nearly $8,000 for the Kan Jam and Cornhole tournament this year. She was then presented with The YPEM award which is given in recognition of a young professional whose exceptional contribution of time, resources, and energy rallies the next generation of financial executives to support the life-saving mission of Expect Miracles Foundation. Congratulations and thank you for all your hard work Chelsea!

After some exciting Kan Jam and Cornhole matches, the trophies were presented to the top Kan Jam and Cornhole teams. This year the honor of Kan Jam Classic Champion went to Team Enos. This, after a close match with John Hancock Investments (Cullen, Ford, Lemieux, McHugo) - who came in second. In third place was The Disc Jockeys.
With the addition of a Cornhole tournament this year, we had another champion team to present trophies to. Team Eaton Vance beat out 4-Corn Stew in the battle for first and second place. Third place in the Cornhole tournament went to the UFO’s.

As always, special thank you to our amazing volunteers who donated their night to help support Expect Miracles Foundation and the fight against cancer. We couldn’t do it without you! This year has been full of some amazing events and fundraising efforts hosted by YPEM. Expect Miracles Foundation is grateful for the generous companies and individuals who support us throughout the year.
