2019 Expect Miracles in Manhattan Highlights

Thursday, January 24, 2019

On January 24, 2019 at PlayStation Theater in New York City, NY, over 500 financial executives and their guests gathered for the 5th Annual Expect Miracles in Manhattan event. Over 50 firms sponsored the event, and representatives from over 100 companies joined Foundation Sponsors BNY Mellon and Eagle Investment Systems in support of cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

After sampling delicious food stations and creative cocktails, guests turned their attention to the stage for the event’s speaking program. Event Co-Chairs Margaret Flynn-Martin, Morgan Stanley and John Pavese, Merrill Lynch, greeted the crowd and thanked all of our sponsors, guests, donors, and partners for making this event such a success.

After an exciting live auction and tremendous support from the crowd, Executive Director Frank Heavey took the stage to remind guests of our mission and why it is so important. After thanking all of the attendees and volunteers, Heavey spoke of the revolutionary work of Dr. Daniel Heller and his lab, which is part of the Center for Experimental Therapeutics at Memorial Sloan Kettering. To encapsulate the theme of the night, “Picture a Cure,” Heavey introduced a short video featuring testimonials from those who have been touched by cancer and have hope thanks to Expect Miracles Foundation.

Following the video featuring friends, family and colleagues of those in attendance, a thermometer was placed on the screen showing the significant amount of the funds that were being pledged, along with photos of the generous donors at the event. While donations poured in from the crowd, Assistant Director, Maggie Dombroski took the stage to present a very special award.

Since its launch in 2014, Expect Miracles Foundation’s Young Professional group (YPEM) has grown immensely. After the initial year of raising $2,000, YPEM raised over $100,000 in 2018. Dombroski thanked both of the Boston and New York YPEM groups for their amazing efforts and fundraising over the past year. In recognition of one YPEM Leadership Team member’s tremendous dedication and work for the New York YPEM group, Luci Strauss Garren, Goldman Sachs, was awarded the YPEM Award.

Finally, Executive Director Frank Heavey returned to the stage to present the highest award given to a company, the Foundation Award. This year the award was given to BNY Mellon and Eagle Investment Systems. To accept the prestigious award BNY Mellon's Head of Asset Servicing for the Americas, Emily Portney was welcomed to the stage.

Thank you to our wonderful guests, sponsors, partners and volunteers – YOU are the Cure. If you did not get a chance to donate, you can do so here. You can check out even more photos on our Facebook Page! We hope to see you at our upcoming events, the 10th Annual West Coast Classic in San Diego on March 20, 2019 and the 25th Anniversary East Coast Classic charity golf tournament on June 13, 2019 in Plymouth, MA.
