200 young professionals came together for a night on the rooftop garden at 9OFS Tuesday August 22, 2017 for the 3rd Annual Expect Miracles Foundation Kan Jam Classic. A record thirty-two teams committed to this year fundraising goal for cancer research and the Expect Miracles Foundation college scholarship, awarded annually to a student who has been affected by cancer. Thanks to the efforts of all our teams, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators who came out to cheer on the players, this year’s Kan Jam tournament raised over $22,000 and set a new fundraising record! Teams of 2-4 battled for the trophies in the Kan Jam competition while spectators relaxed outside on the grass and enjoyed additional activities provided by our sponsors.

Let's see where to begin...back in late November/early December of 2016 I received an email notification from Megan Melville mentioning Expect Miracles Foundation received 2 bibs for the 2017 Boston Marathon. Being a current volunteer for the Foundation, I thought it would be such an amazing opportunity to support an organization that's close to my heart and potentially run the marathon that I've watched as a fan for the past 6 years. However, 2 bibs meant A TON of competition so I applied on a whim just to throw my name in the hat. Two weeks later I received a call from Megan. I thought it was going to be more a conversation like "Thank you so much for your application but we went with so-and-so", but in reality she said "you've been selected to be one of the runners in the 2017 Boston Marathon". At that moment, my heart sank and I teared up in joy. I was thrilled to have been chosen out of so many applications and never felt more grateful. I immediately signed the papers and accepted the difficult journey of training and fundraising.
Four months ago I never thought I’d be able to say I’m a marathoner. Four months ago, I never thought I’d be able to say I raised over $8,400 for the fight against cancer. April 17th, 2017 marked the day I said both.
On Thursday, March 2, I had the privilege of attending the annual Jimmy Fund Golf Appreciation Night with my colleague, Megan Melville, and Eileen Storz-Salino, from Eaton Vance Management and a member of the Board of Directors of Expect Miracles Foundation.
Jimmy Fund Golf has been raising funds for 34 years for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In 2016, over 160 tournaments nationwide raised a record $7.2 million, bringing the total raised to $112 million. Congratulations to Jimmy Fund Golf - you do a fantastic job!
