Get to Know Us: Jaime Waldecker

This month, Expect Miracles Foundation is excited to highlight another veteran staff member—our Development and Events Manager, Jaime Waldecker! From the Foundation's beginnings, Jaime has been an integral part of our organization. Her dedication to supporting the cancer community, and our mission, is an inspiration to us all.

Read below for our exclusive Q+A with Jaime!

Q: How long have you been at Expect Miracles Foundation?

I started in September 2018, so about 3.5 years!

Q: What inspired you to work for Expect Miracles?

I was working as an administrative assistant at John Hancock Investments as my first job after college. While I was learning and working with a wonderful group of people, I knew it was time for me to take the next step in my career. I met with different mentors for advice on my next role but I still wasn’t sure what the best direction was for me. After my dad passed away from a short battle with cancer in 2017, I was motivated to find a job that I was passionate about and that he would be proud of.

I was familiar with Expect Miracles Foundation as I had attended a few YPEM (Young Professionals Expect Miracles) events with my colleagues and worked closely with folks who were proud Miracle Makers. When I saw the job opening for an Events and Operations Assistant it felt like the perfect fit. The combination of working with financial service professionals, an environment I was familiar with, while raising funds that would help cancer patients like my dad, seemed too good to be true, but it wasn’t!

Q: What's your role at the Foundation and what does your day-to-day look like?

I am the Development & Events Manager and every day is different- especially with the past two years of a global pandemic! The past few years have taught me to be flexible, creative, and always have a plan "b," and "c." In my role I am responsible for planning and implementing fun and inspiring events that our supporters will be excited to attend and proud to bring guests to.

My days are filled working with the events team to prepare for any events on the calendar (in- person and virtual). Most days I am communicating with vendors, event partners, and sponsors about upcoming events to ensure they will be as successful as possible. I also work closely with my team to develop partnerships to maximize fundraising efforts.

Q: What do you love most about doing this work?

I love that it never feels like work! And of course, the people. I get to work with individuals every day that want to achieve the same goal as me- to help those who have been impacted by cancer. From my colleagues, the Board of Directors, the YPEM Leadership Teams, event partners, volunteers, and supporters, I couldn’t be surrounded by a more generous or impressive network of people.

Q: What are your hopes/goals for the organization this year?

I hope we all have the opportunity to see and connect with as many supporters in- person as possible. While we have been fortunate to have so many loyal supporters who have remained connected virtually and attended some of our smaller events over the past two years, I am looking forward to seeing many familiar faces and hopefully some new ones at in-person events in 2022!

Q: If you could say anything to our supporters—volunteers, sponsors, and donors—what would you say?

Thank you for being so generous with your donations, time, ideas, and energy. It is so motivating to work with individuals who care so deeply about the same mission as I do. While there wasn’t a treatment available for my dad, I believe that you are all contributing to a future where there will be. Thank you for providing hope to so many!

We look forward to seeing all of Jaime's future impact on the cancer community! Together, we can create hope.
