The Boston Marathon
April 15, 2019 | Boston, MA

We are excited to announce that we have five runners on The Expect Miracles Racing Team running the 2019 Boston Marathon through the John Hancock Nonprofit Program! Meet the team below and consider making a donation today!

Luci Strauss Garren

Luci is a Vice President at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. At GSAM, she is a Relationship Manager in the Americas Client Business, covering various wirehouse, independent and broker-dealer firms. She joined Goldman Sachs in 2016. Prior to joining the firm, Luci worked at Morgan Stanley in both Investment Management and Operations. She received a B.A. from Elon University, magna cum laude with a major in Strategic Communications. This is Luci’s third marathon and her favorite person to run with is her husband, Eric.

Frank Heavey

Frank Heavey considers running the Boston Marathon for Expect Miracles Foundation an incredible honor. As the Foundation’s Executive Director, he gets to see first-hand the impact of generous supporters. Having lost both parents to cancer and having his mother-in-law and his wife survive cancer, he is deeply motivated to help others by advancing the mission of Expect Miracles Foundation to fund life-saving cancer research. Frank ran the Boston Marathon in 2018 so he’s hoping the weather will be a bit nicer in 2019.

Matt Mackay

Matt Mackay is very excited to run the Boston Marathon for Expect Miracles Foundation. He is the President of the NYC YPEM leadership team and has been a member since its start in 2016. Both of his parents are cancer survivors and he has lost many family members to the disease. This makes the research that Expect Miracles Foundation supports so important to him. This will be Matt’s fifth marathon and his first time running Boston. While he ran competitively in college Matt will tell you those days are long behind him.

Jaime Waldecker

Jaime Waldecker is excited to be running her sixth marathon for Expect Miracles Foundation. She began working at Expect Miracles Foundation as the Events and Operations Assistant in September 2018. The mission of the foundation is so important to Jaime, as she like many others, has lost loved ones to cancer. Jaime is running this year's marathon in memory of her dad and in honor of her mom- a three time cancer survivor.

Lanie Van Heerden

Lanie is a Senior Manager in PwC's Asset Management group, which he has been with since 2012. Qualifying for the Boston Marathon has been a long time goal which he finally achieved at the 2017 New York City Marathon. Lanie has been involved with YPEM since 2016. Originally from South Africa, Lanie now lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife Hannah and one year old daughter Grace, who will both be cheering for him at the 123rd Boston Marathon

Breakthroughs in targeted therapies. Support for families impacted by cancer in their daily lives. That’s our focus. And that’s your focus when you run for the Expect Miracles Foundation Boston Marathon Team. The proceeds raised through your fundraising efforts will benefit cancer research and support the heart of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s revolutionary research and development model, the Robert and Renée Belfer Center for Applied Cancer Science. The Belfer Center addresses key challenges in cancer treatments by leveraging DFCI discoveries and applying them to drug discovery and development.

Already have a number? Email Jaime Waldecker at jwaldecker@expectmiraclesfoundation.org to join the team without a fundraising minimum! Make your marathon experience more meaningful by making a difference in the fight against cancer.
