Expect Miracles Foundation, formerly Mutual Funds Against Cancer, was one of thousands of organizations to take part in the second annual #GivingTuesday, which encourages people to give to charity after the excesses of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
The foundation raised more than $3,000 in its Giving Tuesday campaign, according to Frank Heavey, chief development officer, who adds that equally valuable is the exposure the foundation got via social media throughout the day.
“Thanks to retweets and mentions, our campaign reached an audience of over 350,000 on Twitter,” says Heavey.
The money raised by Expect Miracles Foundation from financial services firms and executives benefits cancer-patient care initiatives across the country and cancer research at the Belfer Institute for Applied Cancer Science at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, according to the group’s website.
The foundation has raised more than $10 million for cancer research in its nearly 20 years of work, according to Heavey.
