No signs of the financial crisis were to be found atop the picturesque State Room for the 5th Annual |Expect Miracles| Wine and Spirits Extravaganza. The room was aglow, decorated in warm browns and coppers, and filled with some of the most prominent individuals in the mutual fund and financial services industries. Apart from the record attendance of 470, the event raised more than $150,000, up 15 % from the 2007 Wine Extravaganza.
The 5th Annual |Expect Miracles| Wine and Spirits Extravaganza was an event of record. Industry leaders joined Mutual Funds Against Cancer (MFAC) to celebrate efforts in the fight against cancer. Six portraits of individuals who have battled or continue to battle cancer were the inspiration for the wine event theme, |Faces of Hope|. From three-time Superbowl Champion, Joe Andruzzi, to Interactive Data's Ken Starr to five-year old Luciano, their portraits gave a face to MFAC's mission.
The event kicked off with an intimate gathering of 80 assembled for the first ever Foundation Reception to honor MFAC's Foundation Sponsor, Interactive Data. MFAC's Chairman, Frank Strauss, presented Stuart Clark, CEO of Interactive Data, with the 2008 Expect Miracles Award for the firm's deep commitment to MFAC and its mission. Dr. DePinho, Director of the Center for Applied Cancer Sciences (CACS), also spoke at the Reception reporting on the medical breakthroughs CACS has made in the four years since its inception in 2004.
The event featured wines from around the world sponsored by MS Walker and funds were raised through a Vespa donation program sponsored by Interactive Data Corp., coupled with a live and silent auction. Congratulations to George Pereira from Charles Schwab in San Francisco on being the winner of this year's Vespa donation program!
On behalf of the MFAC team, we would like to extend our deepest appreciation to our supporters of the 5th Annual Wine Extravaganza. It is because of you that…together we can expect miracles.
